Yvette is a seasoned attorney with a passion for navigating complex legal and policy landscapes, specializing in emerging technologies, economic empowerment, and consumer protection. Currently serving as a Senior Counsel at Capital One, she plays a key role in applying fair lending and consumer finance laws and regulations to advance the company's mission to "change banking for good".
In addition to her role at the Capital One, Yvette is a dedicated educator, serving as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where she teaches best practices for aspiring lawyers, and a Graduate Lecturer at the University of Texas's Archer Center, where she teaches effective policy development and strategy to future leaders. Simultaneously, she serves as a Board Member on the Georgetown Law Alumni Board, furthering her commitment to legal education and community engagement.
Before joining Capital One, Yvette held impactful leadership roles, including as a Fair Lending Regulatory Attorney at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where she played a pivotal role in shaping fair lending, artificial intelligence, and Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP) legal strategies and regulations, and as head of the Washington, D.C office and Vice President of Policy for the National Urban League, where she spearheaded initiatives aimed at advancing economic empowerment for marginalized communities. Her career also includes serving as Senior Counsel and Legislative Director for the House Oversight Committee under the late Chairman Elijah E. Cummings, where she led pioneering investigations into the the applications of Artificial Intelligence in both private and public sectors and its impact on consumer protection and civil rights and liberties.
Yvette's journey has been marked by diverse experiences, including roles as an Attorney Advisor at the US Department of Justice; and as Counsel for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Yvette has also effectively managed government oversight and legislative engagement for the CFPB and Match Group (the global technology parent company of Tinder, Match.com, OkCupid, and Hinge).
Yvette is a proud alumna of Georgetown University Law Center, where she earned her Juris Doctorate, and Georgetown University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree with a double major in Government and English.
